Gorgeous Palenque is the stuff of legions, with just five per cent of the site excavated you gain an understanding of the size and complexity of the Mayan empire.

The pyramid-temples are set within dense jungle and excavations are continuing today. Those that have been uncovered have been well restored. There is an opportunity to see the crypt of Pacal the Great. The site’s museum holds many treasure including the famous green masks.

Collectivos run from the town of Palenque to the ruins along with the stunning Agua Azul.
