Blue Hole Dive, Belize

Shark at Half Moon Caye

Divers flock to Belize for the Blue Hole and while I enjoyed the dive, I personally found it underwhelming. There was little to see apart from large stalactites, visibility was disappointing and the only sea life was a large shark almost beyond visability.

Costing between US$240-340 for three dives including the Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye and the Aquarium, it is pricy for what you experience. The highlight was a stop at Half Moon Caye Island where there is a turtle hatching beach along with Frigates, Red Footed Boobies and Iguanas – reminiscent of the Galapagos.
Dive operator: Frenchies, good equipment. Most operators are willing to allow inexperienced divers to do deeper dives including the Blue Hole, and there is a lack emphasis on the buddy system.
