Vegas meets Australia’s Gold Coast on the shores of the Whitsunday’s Whitehaven Beach. The beach itself is stunning with picture postcard white sand and crystal clear aqua coloured water that stretches for miles. Lining the beach are high rise hotels.
Cancun was selected and designed in the 1970s to be a resort for American tourists and has succeeded. With three Walmarts and a Mall selling US brands, you can perhaps forget that you are, in fact, in Mexico. Cancun was my ticket into Mexico and a great starting point for seeing the splendours of the Yucatan.
Accommodation: Hostel Orquideas, located inland at Cancun Central. Includes breakfast, dinner, water, tea and coffee and the cutest dog Dante. The hostel has a good vibe, air-conditioning, is clean and conveniently located.
Partying: Coco Bongo, a circus style night club with “free” alcohol if you can get to the bar. US$60
